Expectations: “Looking at class 2A We expect great success, We have the talent to match anyone in class 2A bar none. Something we have never had is depth... We are 3 groups of skills deep and they can all do the job and do it quite well. With this type of rotation and depth, if we stay healthy and together we expect to make a very deep run and of course the goal every year is State Championship!” - Zephyrhills Christian coach Mike Smith
COVID-19: “Covid-19 has not really affected our team we do our best to maintain social distance when talking time. We really just encourage hand washing staying in your own bubble and if you have any sickness at all stay home. We have dealt quite well with this.” - Zephyrhills Christian coach Mike Smith
The Scoop: Any team that loses a lineman the caliber of Malik Jones is definitely going to take a slight step back, but the Warriors did upgrade in other areas based on transfers into the school. Jones, who is now at Florida Atlantic, was a monster on the offensive and defensive lines now leaves a void on both ends. Joey Dobbs becomes the club’s top lineman and will be relied upon to lead both on offense and defense. The current quarterback situation for the Warriors is very good, as Smith has last year’s starter Caleb Gaskin and transfer Nick Novo, who was in California last season and before was at Zephyrhills. Both signal callers are expected to guide an offense that was more run oriented a year ago.
